Starting Lineup

R.Risser · F.Thauvin · L.Openda · M.Udol · T.Hazard · A.Haidara · A.Obispo · I.Ganiou · R.Aguilar · R.Amane · A.Bulatović

Seeking to control the tempo through high energy and verticality, Lens operates with a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press to win the ball back quickly and use rapid transitions to catch opponents out of position. The goal is to use aggressive movement to stretch the defence and create scoring chances in tight spaces.

R.Risser stays between the posts to anchor the back line. The defensive unit functions as a flat back four where R.Aguilar acts as an attacking full back to provide width on the right. M.Udol plays as the left back, looking to overlap the winger when the play moves wide. In the center, I.Ganiou and A.Obispo form a central pairing, with I.Ganiou acting as a ball playing defender to start attacks. They must hold the line and be ready to step up to catch attackers offside while ensuring they cover the space behind the advancing full backs.

The midfield consists of a three man midfield with a carrier. A.Bulatović works to shield the defence and recycle possession when the team needs to slow the game down. A.Haidara operates in the left central role, looking to carry the ball forward and connect the defensive line to the attack. R.Amane plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, finding pockets of space to play through the lines. This trio works to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from building play through the center.

Lens employs three attackers across the front to maintain constant pressure. L.Openda acts as a pressing centre-forward, using his pace to run in behind the defence and harass defenders. On the wings, F.Thauvin and T.Hazard act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create numerical superiority in the central areas. This movement allows the wide players to find the feet of the striker or deliver early crosses into the box. The front three work in combination to pull defenders out of position and create space for late runs.

One major advantage for Lens is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The team also creates wide overloads from the overlapping runs of R.Aguilar and M.Udol. This constant movement forces the opposition to shift quickly, often leaving gaps for R.Amane to exploit.

This 4-3-3 formation relies on high intensity and quick transitions to dominate the game. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play under pressure or leave space behind their defensive line.
