Strømsgodset favors a direct and high intensity style of football using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and quickly transition into attack. The team looks to control the middle of the park through a crowded midfield, making it difficult for opponents to play through the lines.

JERHEM operates between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit functions as a back three with SABR-ÄRI acting as the left centre-back. Beside him, KHÓLVAR holds the middle ground while TSHIWAMBA covers the right side. This trio defends zonally to maintain a compact shape. The defenders must step up to squeeze the space and set the offside trap, ensuring the team maintains a high line to keep the opposition pinned back.

The midfield is heavily populated to dominate the central areas. NØRVELDT and IBUMGO operate as a double pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. In front of them, ÍNG-KARLSON and ZAHIOUB play as inverted eights, looking to carry the ball forward and arrive late into the box. THØRVÁLDSEN plays as an attacking ten behind the forwards, acting as the main link to play through the lines. This group of five works to press in pairs to force a long ball from the opposition.

Attacking the opposition relies on the partnership of RAVELSON and WØRJLOF. RAVELSON works as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line, while WØRJLOF looks to find space and make runs in behind. The team builds play through the middle rather than the wings, using the attacking midfielder to find the feet of the striker. When the team wins the ball, they look to break quickly with combinations between the front three to isolate defenders in one on one situations.

A major strength for Strømsgodset is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to recycle possession and control the tempo. The formation also offers great compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find gaps. This setup allows the wide midfielders to drop back and create a five man defensive block when needed, providing stability during periods of heavy pressure.

This 3-5-2 lineup is designed for a high press and rapid transitions. It is most effective against teams that struggle to play out from the back and cannot cope with central congestion.
