Koundé provides cover when the wide players push forward. This unit stays compact to deny space between the lines.

The midfield uses a central pairing to manage the tempo. Bernal and Pedri occupy the central spaces, with Pedri using his passing range to find teammates and Bernal working to protect the defense. Lamine and Cancelo operate in the wide areas to provide much needed width. Cancelo acts as a wing back to push high, while Lamine can move into the half spaces to create chances. This group works to recycle possession and connect the defense to the front line.

In the attacking third, Barcelona uses three forwards to pin the last defender. Ferrán operates as the lone striker to hold up the ball and link play. Raphinha stays wide on the left to cross, while Fermín operates on the right. Raphinha and Fermín often cut inside to create goal scoring opportunities. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball and win the second ball. This attacking movement creates runs in behind and allows for quick combinations.

One major advantage for Barcelona is the ability to create wide overloads. When Cancelo and Lamine push forward, they create extra numbers against the opposition full backs. The team also benefits from numerical superiority in the midfield when Pedri and Bernal combine to bypass the midfield. This makes it difficult for opponents to track runners or cover the passing lanes effectively.
