Barcelona plays a high pressing, possession based game through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the center of the pitch and pinning the opposition back by using a heavy attacking presence. Joan García sits between the posts to organize the defense. The back line uses a very high line consisting of only two central defenders, Romero and Curbasi. Both Romero and Curbasi must act as ball playing defenders to play out from the back while being ready to sweep behind the high line if the opposition hits in behind on the transition. Because of the lack of full backs, these two must be ready to cover large areas of space and defend man-to-man when the ball is wide.

The midfield is the engine room of Barcelona, utilizing five players to dominate the center. A three man midfield with a carrier and creative outlets sees Rodri and Pedri occupying the central spaces. Pedri uses his passing range to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Rodri works to shield the defense and win the second ball. Fermín plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find space between the lines. Eric and Balde operate as wide midfielders, with Eric on the right and Balde on the left, to provide width and help the team spread wide during build up.

Up front, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Kane acts as a target man who can hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Raphinha plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside, while Yamal operates on the right to isolate a one on one wide. These forwards press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the opposition build up. This attacking trio creates constant movement to pull defenders out of position and create runs in behind.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly through numerical superiority in midfield. By crowding the center, Barcelona can recycle possession easily and pick up runners in the final third. The presence of Eric and Balde allows the team to create wide overloads, which helps to pin the last defender and open up gaps for Kane or the attacking midfielders to arrive late into the box.
