Billy and Oscar operate as the wide centre-backs, where they must cover the wide areas when the team loses possession. Oscar and Billy are tasked to defend zonally and hold the line, while Noah stays central to intercept passes and win the second ball. This back three must stay compact to prevent long balls from breaking the line.

The midfield is built around a three-man midfield with a carrier. Logan acts as the central engine to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Elliot and Luca occupy the left and right central midfield roles to control the tempo. Logan works to shield the defense while Elliot and Luca look to carry the ball forward into the half-spaces. They must also track back quickly to support the back three and prevent counter attacks.

The attacking unit utilizes four players to stretch the defence. Austin plays as a wide winger on the right to pull the opposition defender out of position, while Art operates as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside. Alex and Charles lead the line as a two forwards in a partnership. They work to pin the last defender and make runs in behind. This front four is designed to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long and allowing the Zambia defense to collect the ball.

A major tactical advantage for Zambia is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The four attackers and three midfielders can swarm the opponent to trigger a press in the opposition half. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads and isolate wide players in one on one situations when Austin and Art find space. This setup forces the opponent into making mistakes in their own defensive third.
