Balde and Koundé operate as wide midfielders who provide the necessary width, with Balde pushing high to overlap and Koundé tucking in to help control the flanks. Pedri and De Jong form a central pairing where De Jong uses his driving runs to carry the ball forward and Pedri uses his passing range to find teammates in tight spaces. Olmo plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the midfield to the attack and find pockets of space between the lines.

In the attacking phase, the team utilizes three players across the front to stretch the defense. Raphinha and Yamal act as wide attackers, with Yamal looking to cut inside and Raphinha providing constant movement to pull defenders out of position. Vlahović plays as a lone striker, acting as the focal point to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the ball back high up the pitch.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, specifically the ability to create numerical superiority in the midfield. By having five players in the middle, Barcelona can easily recycle possession and move the ball quickly. The presence of Balde and Koundé also allows for wide overloads that can isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This high pressing 2-5-3 is designed to dominate teams that struggle to play out from the back under intense pressure. It is best suited for matches where Barcelona needs to pin the opponent into their own half and control the tempo.
