Starting Lineup

Barcelona focuses on controlling the tempo and dominating the ball through a high press, utilizing a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to suffocate the opposition in their own half and create constant passing lanes in the final third. The aim is to keep the ball and move the opponent from side to side until a gap appears in the defensive line.

Joan García operates between the posts to start any build up. In front of him, Gerard Martín and Curbasí act as a narrow pair of centre backs who play out from the back. They stay high up the pitch to squeeze the space and force a long ball from the opponent. The defensive unit relies on these two to stay calm under pressure while maintaining a high line to catch attackers offside.

The midfield is a dense block designed to control the center of the pitch. Pedri and De Jong act as the engine, with Pedri using his passing range to move the ball and De Jong driving forward with the ball to break the lines. Olmo plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the lines. Koundé and Balde provide the width from the wide areas, acting as wingers to stretch the defence. Koundé occupies the right flank while Balde pushes up on the left to ensure the team stays heavy in the middle.

In the attacking phase, Barcelona uses three attackers to pin the opposition back. Yamal stays wide on the right to isolate a one on one situation, while Gordon operates on the left. Pavlidis acts as a pressing centre forward to disrupt the opposition build up. This front three works to pin the last defender and create space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box. The team looks to combine in tight spaces to find a through ball to the forwards.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in the middle of the park, making it difficult for teams to retain possession. The use of Koundé and Balde in wide positions creates wide overloads that pull the opposition defenders out of position.
