Joan García plays behind a very aggressive two man back line consisting of Gerard Martín and Curbasi. Because there are only two central defenders, they must step up high to engage attackers early and squeeze the space. Gerard Martín and Curbasi act as ball playing defenders who must be prepared to cover large areas of grass if the press is bypassed. This system relies on the defenders holding a high line to compress the playing area and minimize the distance between the defensive unit and the midfield.

The midfield is the engine of the Barcelona lineup, utilizing a five man bank to control the center. Pedri and Rodri operate as a deep lying playmaker pairing, with Rodri providing defensive cover to shield the two defenders while Pedri looks to progress through the thirds with his vision. Fermín plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the lines. On the flanks, Cancelo acts as a wide midfielder who can push high to provide width, while Eric stays on the right side to balance the central numbers. This group works to win the ball back high up the pitch and recycle possession through short, quick passes.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Olmo acts as a pressing centre forward who works to disrupt the opposition build up. Gordon operates as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create space for late runs, while Yamal stays wide on the right to isolate his defender in one on one situations. This attacking trio uses combinations in tight spaces to break the line and find the feet of the striker. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow wide players to attack the near post or cut it back for arriving midfielders.

One major advantage of this formation is the immense numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it very difficult for opponents to retain the ball.
