Barcelona focuses on overwhelming the opposition through intense pressing and central density using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to dominate the ball in the middle of the pitch and pin the opponent into their own half. By using a narrow central core, the team builds play through quick passes to control the tempo of the game.

Joan García sits behind a very high defensive line to act as a sweeper. The two central defenders, Curbasí and Romero, play as ball playing defenders who step up to squeeze the space. Because there are only two in the back, they must be ready to cover wide areas when the team loses possession. They primarily defend zonally to manage the large gaps behind them while keeping the line high to support the press.

The midfield operates as a five man unit that provides massive control. Pedri and Rodri occupy the central spaces to control the game, with Rodri acting as the anchor to deny the pivot and protect the two defenders. Pedri uses his passing range to find teammates between the lines. Fermín plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to press aggressively and make runs into the box. On the flanks, Cancelo and Koundé push high to provide width, with Cancelo acting as an attacking wing back on the left and Koundé operating on the right to help recycle possession and cover the space.

The attack uses three players to stretch the defence and create constant threats. Raphinha acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the hunt from the front and win the second ball. Yamal and Gordon play as wide wingers, with Yamal looking to cut inside and Gordon using his pace to attack the near post. This front three works to pin the last defender and create situations for through balls. The team relies on rapid combinations to break the line and find the feet of the striker in tight spaces.

Barcelona possesses several tactical advantages with this lineup. The midfield provides numerical superiority in the center, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. There is also a significant ability to press high in coordinated waves because of the proximity of Fermín, Raphinha, and the wingers. This high press allows the team to win it back high up the pitch and attack quickly before the opponent can settle.

This formation is built to dominate possession and suffocate opponents in their own half. It is best suited for games where Barcelona can isolate wide players in one on one situations against a compact low block.
