Gerard Martín stays close to him to defend zonally and cover the space if the high line is caught out.

The midfield uses a double pivot to control the center of the park. Rodri sits deep to shield the defense and acts as a deep lying playmaker with his elite passing range. Pedri operates alongside him, often moving into half spaces to link the defense and attack. Pedri uses his dribbling style to carry the ball forward and find teammates between the lines. This duo must be disciplined to prevent counter attacks while they try to recycle possession.

The attack features four players positioned to stretch the opposition. Raphinha and Lamine occupy the wide areas as inverted wingers who cut inside to create chances. Lamine uses his dribbling to isolate defenders one on one. Fermín and Lautaro operate as a partnership in the center. Lautaro acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the line, while Fermín looks to arrive late into the box to score. Barcelona relies on these four to stay high and force the opposition to defend deep.

This formation offers significant attacking power and the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the press. Barcelona can also find success through speed of transition when Rodri or Pedri win the ball and immediately look to find the front four. The high number of attackers makes it difficult for opponents to build play from the back.
