Starting Lineup

Szczesny · Christensen · Álvaro Cortés · Koundé · Balde · Bernal · Gavi · Dani Olmo · Adeyemi · Abdelkarim · Gordon

Barcelona relies on a heavy possession based identity using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the ball and moving opponents around through short passes and controlled buildup. The goal is to use the wide areas and central pockets to create constant pressure on the opposition.

Szczesny acts as the last line of defense in goal. Behind the midfield, a back three forms the core of the defense with Koundé operating as the right center back. Christensen holds his position to provide cover while Álvaro Cortés plays as the left center back. This three man line works together to play out from the back and maintain a high line to keep the team compact.

The midfield functions as a four man unit to control the center and the flanks. Gavi works as a central midfielder who presses aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. Bernal sits alongside him to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often acting as a carrier to move the ball forward. On the edges of the midfield, Adeyemi plays on the left and Balde plays on the right, providing width and stretching the defense. Adeyemi can push up to join the attack while Balde can overlap to support the offensive movement.

In the attacking third, Barcelona uses three attackers to pin the opposition back. Abdelkarim acts as a lone striker to lead the press and hold up the ball for others. Gordon plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and find space between the lines. Dani Olmo operates on the right, looking to drive into the half spaces or arrive late into the box. These three forwards work in combinations to create runs in behind and pull defenders out of position.

One major advantage for Barcelona is the ability to create wide overloads when Balde and Adeyemi push forward. The formation also allows for numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch when the wingers move inside. This setup makes it very difficult for opponents to defend the space between the lines.

This 3-4-3 formation is built to dominate games through ball retention and constant positional rotations. It is best suited for matches where the team wants to squeeze the space and dictate the tempo against a deep block.
