Gvardiol and Cubarsi form the two central defenders, where they must play out from the back and step up to catch strikers offside. The attack features three players across the front to stretch the defense. Alvarez plays as the lone striker, looking to find the feet of his teammates or run in behind the back line. Yamal stays wide on the right as an inverted winger to cut inside, while Raphinha or Doue operates on the left to provide width and threat. This front line is designed to press from the front in pairs, forcing the opposition into mistakes. The aim is to create combinations in tight spaces and deliver early crosses into the box.

Barcelona gains a huge advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield. With five players in the middle, they can often outnumber the opposition and win the second ball. The ability to press high in coordinated waves allows them to win it back high up the pitch before the opponent can settle.
