In the middle, Ramón and Joaquín function as the central defenders, with Ramón tasked to cover while Joaquín looks to win the second ball. The unit works to stay compact when they drop into a mid-block to deny space between the lines.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide stability. Santiago and Nicolás act as the engine room, where one player often drops between the centre-backs to receive the ball while the other holds position to shield the defense. They must be ready to intercept passes and immediately find the forwards.
