In the center, L. Monteiro and Likhtarovich form the defensive core, where they must defend zonally and hold the line against direct threats. This back four works to stay close together to deny the turn and force the opposition wide.

The midfield functions as a five man unit designed to control the central areas and disrupt play. Mićanović and P. Bresson work to shield the defense and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch. Eze Katakwe connects the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession and finding the wide players. K. Gatti and Kachingwe occupy the half spaces as attacking midfielders, looking to press aggressively to win the ball high and support the lone striker.

Lens utilizes a lone striker in J. Dumas to lead the line. He acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and hold up the ball to allow the midfield to move forward. The attack relies on K. Gatti and Kachingwe to make late runs into the box and provide central presence. When attacking in transition, the team looks to hit in behind with quick passes to J. Dumas or exploit the flanks through the wide midfielders.

This formation provides great compactness when defending deep in a mid-block. Lens can also create numerical superiority in midfield to control the tempo once the ball is won.
