Racing focuses on a compact defensive block and quick transitions using a 5-2-3. This formation is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opposition in behind. The Racing lineup aims to remain difficult to break down while ensuring enough numbers are available to strike on the break.

In goal, 82 acts as the last line of defense. The back five consists of a central trio featuring 78, 76, and 80, while 79 and 75 operate as attacking wing backs. The central defenders like 78 and 80 focus on winning the header and clearing the lines, while 76 provides cover. The wing backs, 75 and 79, are expected to push high to provide width, but they must track back to form a narrow defensive block when the team loses the ball.

The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of 82 and 80 to control the center. These two work to shield the defense and win the second ball. 82 acts as the primary engine to recycle possession, while 80 works to connect the defensive and attacking lines. They must stay disciplined to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines, often dropping deep to help the defenders when under heavy pressure.

Up front, the team utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense. 80 and 80 occupy the wide areas as wingers, looking to cut inside and create chances. The lone striker, 79, acts as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition build up. When the team wins the ball, the wingers look to isolate the opponent in one on one situations or deliver early crosses into the box for 79 to attack.

A major strength of this formation is the ability to maintain compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find space between the lines. The presence of 75 and 79 as attacking wing backs creates wide overloads in the final third. Additionally, the team can transition quickly from a low block to an attacking phase, using the speed of the front three to catch the opposition out of position.

This formation provides a solid base for teams that prefer to defend deep and strike on the break. It is best suited for matches against heavy possession sides where controlling space is more important than controlling the ball.
